2. Making Space

(An acrostic sonnet written in the Spring of 2000)

Rotating rests with these unwanted guests
Of space invading spades in decks of hearts
On bolted beds sewn shut from roommate pests-
More room for mates is needed best when darts
Find bulls-eyes in your thighs and eyes from why
Our love strikes strong with frustration this time.
Roaring for some sensation that’s denied
Yesterday and now never, as we climb
Over collegiate claustrophobics that
Usurp our piece of mind and body’s touch
Halving seconds spent seducing –but stats
Everlasting increase with love of such
Remarkable endure till days of doom
Ensuring my heart will always have room.
